In Autumn Bags the Best Film Award

Thiruvananthapuram: It was yet another golden moment for SIAS Media School when the audience broke into jubilant applause as Prasad OP received the prestigious award for Best Film and Best Screenplay of ICCON 2011 film fest from CP Padmakumar, eminent filmmaker. The award night was held at Dr. C O Karunakaran Auditorium, Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram on November 2, 2011, Wednesday.

Prasad OP was awarded for his debut short film, In Autumn.The primary selection was done from 80 movies from campus all over Kerala. 20 short films were selected to second round, screened and three movies were nominated for each category of awards on the function held on August 25, 2011. In Autumn was among the best three nominations for the best film, best direction, best screenplay and best actress.

Poovachal Khader, Soorya Krishnamoorthy, and CP Padmakumar were the chief guests of the final award night. “I am very thankful to the organizers of ICCON film fest. Cinema is, undoubtedly, a team work. This award is for the whole crew who worked and supported me”, Prasad said after receiving the award for best film. ICCON 2011(Intercampus Cinemascope Convention) film fest was organised by the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College students union and ‘Samskara’ – a students’ cultural wing. The award consists of 20000 rupees cash prize, trophy and certificate for the best film and 3000 rupees cash prize, trophy and certificate for the best screenplay.

Prasad OP is a fourth semester Mass Communication and Journalism student in SAFI Institute of Advanced Study (SIAS), Vazhayoor, Malappuram. In Autumn is one among the 13 films produced by SIAS Media School in the year 2011, as part of the production training of the Mass Communication and Journalism students. The film proceeds through the conversation of a college girl and her teacher who visits her after her suicide attempt. Uma Variar, a former student of SAFI Institute of Advanced Study handled the role of the heroine and has entered the final list to be the best actress in ICCON fest. Mohammed Ashraf  has enacted the teacher’s role brilliantly.
