Sajan Sindhu speaking in the ocassion

SIAS: “The canvas of an animation film is vaster than a real film. Here, you can imagine any impossible thing which is practically unable to shoot and present it with your creativity,” told Sajan Sindhu, an award winning animation filmmaker. Sajan was giving a presentation on animation filmmaking at the department of MCJ on January 5.His critically acclaimed film Pachilakkoodu (My Home is Green) was screened and an open forum followed. He also screened sequences from the world’s most important animation movies.

Sajan shared the experiences, challenges and crises faced by animation filmmakers in Kerala. Here, most of the people see animation films as a medium for children, whereas in western countries, animation films are enjoyed by people of all ages. In Kerala, even educated people are not aware of the advantages of the medium, and hardly any producer agrees to spend money for animation films. There is enough misunderstanding and confusion about making animation movies, too. He introduced the pre-production, production and post-production stages of animation filmmaking, with the help of videos. The software used for animation were also introduced.

Sajan’s debutant film Pachilakkoodu was released in 2010; it is about a lonely ant that has lost his entire tribe in a pesticide mishap. One day he meets a baby caterpillar and both the tiny creatures struggle to escape from the ruin of pesticides. The film set in the backdrop of Endosulfan abuse, bagged many awards at various national and international festivals. Apart from running his own multimedia company at Farook College, Sajan Sindhu is involved in a range of activities: running Natural Life Research Centre at Attappadi namely Hithakamar, practicing Natural Healing Therapy for the people who suffer from various diseases, heading the Research Institute for Mental Health (RIHMANS) etc. Anwar Ali, I Semester MCJ, welcomed the gathering and P Sandheep, III Semester MCJ delivered vote of thanks.

A Hollywood animation movie Animals United, directed by Reinhard Kloos and Holger Tappe, was screened in the afternoon. It is a full length animation movie about global warming, with gripping sequences and engaging character sketches.
